I'll take my coffee with butter and coconut oil, thanks! - Helping Bodies Heal

I’ll take my coffee with butter and coconut oil, thanks!

I started drinking coffee when I moved to NYC after graduating from college.  I would pick up  my coffee from the guy in the cart outside of the building where I worked; I never had coffee any other time really.  For years I drank whatever coffee was available, as long as it was “light and sweet,” I was happy.  And then I developed a $5/day Starbucks habit – Starbucks EVERY DAY!  Let’s just say that wasn’t sustainable, budget-wise.  My parents finally bought me a Keurig coffee machine a few years ago and it was PERFECT!  Quick, easy coffee, at home for free!  I thought I had hit the lotto!

I was so wrong!

Over the years my coffee taste buds have become discriminating.  I won’t touch Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, instant coffee or some drip coffee if its weak or cheaply made.  A few months ago I upgraded my coffee habit and started drinking Bulletproof Coffee.

THIS IS THE JACKPOT OF ALL COFFEE!

So what’s the big deal with this coffee you may be wondering?

For me, quality makes all the difference!  The owner of the company – David Asprey – is REALLY particular about the quality of ingredients in all his products, including his coffee.  Coffee beans (and other grains!) can sometimes contain mycotoxins, a type of mold that can be the culprit of poor performance and health issues when too much is ingested.

As with all things health related, there are arguments for and against the theory that one should avoid coffee because of the possible contamination of mycotoxins.  I won’t debate that here; I’ll just say that for me personally, anything I can do (within reason) to avoid EXTRA molds and toxins inside my body is a NO-BRAINER for me.  Bulletproof coffee beans are carefully processed to  dramatically reduce harmful molds or bacteria from impacting your health.

The other reason I LOVE Bulletproof coffee is the way it’s made.  I said goodbye to my Keurig machines and hello to an old-fashioned French Press.  I brew my coffee in my lovely French press, dump it into my blender with 1 tablespoon of grass-fed butter AND 1 tablespoon of Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil, blend on high for a few minutes until a nice frothy foam is created.  I pour it into my favorite mug and TRULY enjoy the entire experience.

Why do I add butter and coconut oil to my coffee?   Here are a few reasons, straight from the companies website:

  • It makes you feel energized, alert, and focused all day without the crash of commercial energy drinks
  • It can melt body fat and increase muscle mass (following good nutrition and exercise)
  • It tastes great and provides important fatty acids like CLA

And, it makes a nice latte-type of drink without the milk and steamer normally required!  Win-win for me!

If you want to see how Bulletproof Coffee is made and read more about the product itself, CLICK HERE.  Let me mention, I receive no discounts or money for endorsing this product.  I  am sharing this information because there is a lot of controversy out there about coffee and it’s another MYTH that one cannot be healthy if they drink coffee.  That said, coffee is acidic to the body so moderation is key (1 cup per day, AFTER breakfast!) .  As we know, sugar is the antithesis of good health so consider dropping it from your coffee altogether or switching to coconut sugar.

I’d love to hear from you if you drink Bulletproof coffee already — what do you think?   If this post inspires you to try it, please let me know how you like it.

In good coffee,
Chinyere

P.S. I recently found out you can order the coffee and the oil from Amazon — an awesome gift for this Amazon Prime member! 🙂
