I confess, I’m a reformed people pleaser. And a former “good girl.”
30+ years of that belief system + other lifestyle habits and it’s no wonder my body broke down and ushered in Hashimoto’s, PCOS and severe PMS.
My people-pleasing and good-girl routine looked like…
👉 feeling responsible for other peoples experiences and feelings
👉 saying yes when I wanted to say no (and vice versa)
👉 using my energy caring for others while neglecting myself
👉 exerting too much energy living up to other people’s ideas of who I was –frantically cleaning my apartment because I was known as the “clean freak” – for example
👉 playing by other people’s rules – especially in my career climbing the corporate ladder to VP
👉 acting as the “peace-keeper” in a conflict, even if it cost me emotionally, mentally, financially
And while I was doing all of that exhausted, distracted and overwhelmed, I wasn’t:
❌Paying attention to the small declines in my body…until they became bigger declines
❌Diligent about what I was putting in my body – favoring heavy carbs and sweets
❌Concerned that I was living on 4-5hrs sleep most of the time…
❌Focusing on the root of the problem…I spent years and thousands of dollars chasing and trying on different band-aids
Do you see how this all fits together?
1️⃣ What I THOUGHT drove how I felt about myself, my health, career, life, other people, my place in the world, etc.
2️⃣ How I FELT about those things drove what I decided to do or not do…about food, work, play, connection, self-care, etc.
3️⃣ My ACTIONS and INACTION caused my genetics for disease and dysfunction to be expressed and shut down processes for healing, repair and vitality.
For me, the result was poor digestion and gut problems, weak immunity, unbalanced hormones, poor detoxification, high inflammation, poor blood sugar balance and nutrient deficiencies. Enter: PCOS, Hashimoto’s and PMS.
The beauty of it all is that, once you get it, you can start working on your beliefs and thoughts so you can start healing!
